The library at MFLBS is in full swing!! Watching the students check out books
for the first time with such joy is definitely a top-five moment of my Peace
Corps service. Their enthusiasm
has yet to diminish with each trip to the library. Books For Africa is an amazing organization and I am
thankful for their generous contribution!
I remember going to the library as a child. My marvelous Momma instilled a love for
literature in me at a young age.
Being an elementary school librarian there was never a shortage of
storybook times at home. Even when
returning home from college for a quick weekend visit there would always be
storybook time. My first library
card is one of my most treasured possessions. That tattered, purple plastic rectangle with my third grade
signature faded on the back is still magical to me.
Growing up I was addicted to the children’s show Reading
Rainbow and my dad was addicted to Star Trek. Needless to say, I saw a lot of LeVar Burton and wanted to be him. I often find myself singing the theme
song to Reading Rainbow whilst working in the library.
I can go
anywhere. Friends to know and ways
to grow. A Reading Rainbow. I can
be anything. Take a look it’s in a
book. A Reading Rainbow.
Reading truly can take one anywhere. I hope this little library in Macca Farafenni proves to be
the vehicle that enables these sweet young minds to dream impossible dreams and
make them come true.
